TMS launches ‘TMS Academy’

Recruitment specialist now in position in Singapore to provide tourism related training programs

15 July 2009 –TMS Asia-Pacific has officially entered into the executive training arena with the launch of its first ‘TMS Academy’ concept in Singapore.

The move follows the recruitment specialist’s accreditation from the Workforce Development Agency of Singapore last March with TMS becoming officially listed as a registered training school in Singapore.

Effective 27 July the company will commence the roll out of a series of comprehensive, qualification-based training programs with the first taking place in Singapore.

These will focus on corporate travel, F&B, revenue management and personal development.

TMS CEO Andrew Chan said the courses had been designed to place a strong focus on the practical skills and real-world expertise both required and applicable in today's fast-paced travel, tourism and hospitality landscape.

“The courses, while aimed principally at existent industry staff, are also geared to target and attract mid-level to senior executives in transition from other business areas,” he said.

“This is particularly the case with people from other business sectors facing the possibility of retrenchment or those who have in fact been retrenched and who need to be pragmatic with regard to their financial survival beyond outplacement.”

The first TMS Academy workshop is scheduled to take place in TMS’s 9 Ann Siang Road, Singapore, offices on 27 July when the company will conduct a ‘Responsible Service of Alcohol’ program.

This will be followed by ‘Revenue Management – Creating a Winning Culture’ on 12-13 August, ‘Corporate Travel Management – The New Way Forward’ from 17-19 August, a ‘Talent Acquisition’ – The Secrets of Attracting the Best’ course from 27-29 August and ‘The Art of Competency-based Interviewing’ session on 30 August.

“We are now one of a very few executive search organisations able to offer dedicated hospitality and tourism related training programs,” Mr Chan said.

“The Singapore ‘Academy’ will form the template for similar ‘Academies’ the company intends establishing in several of our areas of operation including other parts of Asia, Australia, the Middle East, the UK/Europe and North America.

“These are changing times and new environments call for new measures.

“The TMS Academy offers a supportive and encouraging environment of resourceful peer-to-peer learning for talented and aspiring individuals wishing to unleash their potential and transform themselves into skilled, globally employable professionals.

The TMS Academy formally underscores our ongoing commitment to supporting the needs of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries by raising the excellent service concepts of all travel, tourism and hospitality professionals through constant education and training.

“This is an excellent example of how TMS is constantly evolving its product offerings to reflect changing needs.
